It’s a New Year Let’s do something different!
It’s that time of year when resolutions and intentions are set. I’ve been thinking about those words resolutions and intentions. For many years I set resolutions and, nine times out of ten, I never followed through and beat myself up with words like, “See you can’t follow through. Maybe I’m lazy. You disappointed yourself again.” Sound familiar?
Then I switched to setting an intention. Because I considered it a higher level way of thinking, I thought I would check in with myself during the year and reflect on what I did to meet it. It worked for a few years, then it became just like declaring a resolution and the familiar scripts emerged again.
As the year flowed from 2022 to 2023 I wondered, “am I willing to do something different than setting resolutions, intentions, goals etc…? ” They all seem to carry a similar vibration. How can I make a different choice? So I let myself drift into the unknown.
A thought emerged…it was so simple, almost too simple. What if I considered what I want to move towards? The question:
Who do I have the potential to become if I choose to move towards xxxxx? This was mind-blowing!!!🤯 🤯
Let me back up… When we declare resolutions and intentions what we are doing, unconsciously, is moving away from something we don’t want. What this means is when we choose based on moving away from something, that is where our attention is…so naturally that is what we create. The very thing we don’t want. I knew this on some level…it just seemed to present differently this time.
Moving Towards
Moving towards something creates a very different vibration in the body. It puts us in our future self while still firmly planted in the present. In the present because the choice we are making in the now, takes us into the realm of possibility. Somehow it feels lighter than making a choice formulated in the move awayfrom. In that space, I feel like it’s more of a command inside myself… even if I say it nicely.
So… what are you moving towards today? My belief is when I, we, stand in the now, and choose from a place planted in the fertile ground of possibility, grounded in what we are moving towards, we will create exactly that… one choice, one breath at a time.
Until the next time!
