For a long time I thought the call to wander was about travelling, about exploring new places and cultures. I was lucky, my first plane ride was when I was four and probably has a lot to do with why I adore airports and the notion of wandering. Airports are filled with the possibility of adventure.
Some of us travel when we are young. In my 20’s, I wandered/travelled when most of my friends were getting married and settling down. It culminated in, what at the time, seemed like an epic 7 month adventure to Europe and Turkey. Then we come back, and thus begin the adventure to settle back in.
The readjustment to settle back into a ‘normal’ life can be profound. In my case, it seemed I no longer fit in. I was so different and yet everyone else around me were the same. Their lives had not changed, mine did, so I did what most people do, I readjusted and I settled down.
