So many people find themselves having the same thoughts over and over…again and again.
The cycle can make you crazy. I am no exception to that!
One thing I have found to be helpful over the years is shifting/changing how I breathe. Yes, you heard that right.
I learned many years ago I cannot have the same thought when I change my breath.
First I had to learn about the different breaths;
- earth
- water
- fire
- and air
Each causes a neurological shift in the body. Then I had to disco
ver my go to breath. One thing that jumped out at me at first was noticing how often I actually held my breath. I had to set up timers to check in to check in. My go to breath was air…inhale and hold.
After that I began to play with the different breaths, and I noticed each one invited a new thought to come into my awareness. Each one made me feel differently, one actually moved the information that was moving in my body. It not only shifted what I was thinking, it shifted how I was feeling.
So when I find myself stuck in a thought pattern I change my breath. It’s also part of a practice of being present. It was a journey to become present to what was going on around me, and to my thoughts. The payoff was once I was present to both my surroundings, my behaviours and my thoughts my world started to change. It all began with noticing my breath.
Until the next time!
