Have you ever had one of those defining moments that changes everything? Most of us do, and sometimes, we are not aware of those defining moments until later. We never know where the first ripple of discovery is going to take us.
Sometimes unexpected insights come from the oddest places. Take for example the grief I have experienced the last few weeks in various ways. I was not quite sure what I was grieving until now. I now know, I was in the midst of grieving an old ‘self’. An old way of Being.
If you have been following my blogs for any length of time you know that change is the one constant in life when it comes to evolution, whether we want change or not. We are constantly being invited to discover new aspects of ourSELF.
In the past few weeks the words that have been coming into my awareness include competition, first, truth, strategy, addictive thougthts, and imagine. Most of the conversations have been around relating to, and being with another person, and all the things that come up in the dance that ensues.
“…I don’t do second.”
In a recent conversation I heard myself say “I’m a competitive person and, I don’t do second.” I didn’t recognize the significance of those words until later. We are taught that competition requires a winner and a loser. What if the wholeness of competition has nothing to do with winning and losing? What if it has to do with claiming a truth held deep within. The first drop of rain does not compete with the other drops that come after. We don’t judge one drop as better or worse than another.
The truth I revealed to mySELF was:
” I can choose to be FIRST in a way that is deeply respectful to me and to others.”
We have no control over what others choose for themselves. We do have complete control over what we choose for ourSELF. Choosing mySELF does not mean how I feel about someone changes. It is with the deepest RIG (Respect, Integrity & Generosity of Spirit) for mySELF and other when we choose from a place that is meaningful and honours SELF. Every choice we make has impact on our life, and in the lives of others.
We usually spend a LOT of time thinking about the impact our choices will have on others. Sometimes to our detriment. Sometimes, people don’t like the choices we make, and, we may not like the choices that people make in our life…that is not the point. The point is, are we choosing from a place that honours our capital S Self?
And sometimes, the choice means we have to walk away. This time though, an old paradigm is shifting. Walking away means moving away from an old way of being. And, there is grief associated with choosing to move towards creating a life that is different from the one we have known. It’s an invitation to step into a life with no idea how it will unfold. When we choose to stand in the NOW, all that exists is this breath. We have the opportunity to ask:
“What I am willing to see, hear, feel, sense, and BE?”
There is no right or wrong, no good or bad…it just is.
Owning we are willing to be FIRST is massive. It’s a gateway to saying YES to living in a way that allows us to become MORE.
Until the next time,
